Solar Water Heaters: A Simpler Way to Cut Your Water-Heating Bill

Heating water is one of the steadiest electricity draws in most homes — an electric geyser running daily adds up over a year more than most people expect. A solar water heater replaces or reduces that draw by using sunlight directly to heat water, rather than converting sunlight to electricity first.

There are two common types: flat-plate collectors, which are simpler and more affordable, and evacuated-tube collectors, which perform better in cooler or cloudier conditions. For most homes in and around Kodinar, a flat-plate system sized to household size is enough to meaningfully cut daily electric geyser use.

Sizing depends on the number of people in the household or the hot water demand of a business (e.g. a small hotel or hostel), not just roof space. An undersized tank runs out of hot water by evening; an oversized one is wasted cost.

Solar water heaters pair naturally with a rooftop solar electricity system but don't require one — they can be installed as a standalone upgrade. If you already have a rooftop solar system with us, adding a water heater is usually a straightforward addition to the same roof.
